S.C.T. Address: 2160 E. Victory Dr. Savannah, GA 31404
How quickly do classes fill?
Creative Dramatics I, Creative Dramatics II and Summer Camps fill up the fastest, so if your child is interested in one of those programs, sign up as early as possible. All classes and camps are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please note that class sizes are limited.
Is there a waiting list?
Waiting lists are offered for full camps or classes. Occasionally, space becomes available, but we cannot guarantee class placement. If you would like to be included on a waiting list, please fill out a registration form. You will be notified if space becomes available.
Why should my child or teen take theatre classes?
Theatre classes give students a variety of skills which influence all areas of life and performance. Various studies have shown that students engaged in the performing arts receive higher standardized test scores, more college scholarships and are less likely to give in to peer pressure, drug usage or violence. Theatre students tend to have high levels of self-confidence, are comfortable speaking and reading aloud, exhibit higher understanding of conflict resolution, work well with others and adapt to new situations and environments. The strongest example of how theatre positively effects youth is the students themselves.
What if my child has special needs?
Please contact our office if you have any questions or concerns about your child's ability to participate in one of our programs. Children with special needs are often benefitted by the individual focus provided in our classes. Many have seen improvement in reading skills, verbal communication, following direction and willingness to participate in group activities.
Can I stay with my child during class?
Some of our younger students may experience some seperation anxiety on the first day of class. We find that the most effective cure is a quick and loving goodbye from the parent. Once class begins, students are instantly engaged in class activities with other children. Many students become distracted and lose focus if their parent attends class, while other students may feel distress and not understand why their parent is not watching also. Therefore, it is our firm policy that parents are not permitted to observe classes or rehearsals. Besides, we wouldn't want to spoil the surprise of opening night!
Since S.C.T. is a non-profit organization, why do you charge tuition for theatre classes?
Every single cent of your child's theatre school tuition goes directly into providing resources for that class. Your tuition helps us to create the high quality scenery, costuming, lighting and sound design that help to complete your child's theatrical experience, as well as providing us the means to pay for our teaching facility and staff.
Is financial aid available?
Currently, 17% of our students are receiving scholarships. Scholarships are made available because of generous personal or business donations made to our organization. To see if you qualify for financial aid, please contact our office by calling (912)238-9015 or writing to classinfo@savannahchildrenstheatre.org. To donate, please visit our homepage.
